Dr. Tammy Schmitt:
Owner, Veterinarian
Dr. Tammy Schmitt decided at the ripe age of seven that she was going to become a veterinarian when she grew up. Dr. Schmitt’s tenacity and passion for her craft has simply never quit—now, she’s the owner and sole veterinarian of her very own animal hospital.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Schmitt volunteered at local animal clinics during high school before heading off to Western Kentucky University to earn her undergraduate degree in biochemistry. During her studies, she tutored, played intramural sports, and served as a Resident Assistant in order to become a well-rounded applicant to veterinary school, all while holding a job as a kennel assistant at a local veterinary hospital. Dr. Schmitt then attended Auburn University to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Schmitt bought the Animal Hospital of McHenry in July of 2015 and has happily been serving the pets and animal owners of the area ever since. Medically, she’s fond of surgery and dentistry work, and enjoys forming close bonds with the hospital’s geriatric patients. Dr. Schmitt’s ultimate goal is to make a true difference in the lives of each and every animal and pet parent that she comes in contact with!
At home, Dr. Schmitt and her husband live with four rescue cats that each have sparkling personalities. When she’s not spending time with them or caring for pets here at the clinic, Dr. Schmitt can be found outdoors, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks, and staying active in animal rescue work. She finds volunteering with rescue animals a way to heal the heart.
